Eczema, also called atopic dermatitis, is a common inflammation of the skin that is associated with allergies. Symptoms of eczema include swollen, scaly, itchy, cracking, bumpy, blistering or red skin. Some types of eczema may be caused by allergens that you’ve come into contact with, including:
- Cosmetics
- Skin soap or shampoo
- Cleaning materials
- Perfume/cologne
- Rubber products
- Mold
- Certain metals, such as nickel jewelry
- Weeds, grasses & poison oak
- Dust mites
- Animal dander

Treatment of eczema
Carr and Sugar conduct in-office skin tests to diagnose eczema and then develop a customized treatment plan to provide welcome, lasting relief. Eczema treatments include prescription skin creams and lotions and, obviously, avoiding the cause of the rash altogether. If indicated, medicated shampoos will be recommended. Lastly, if your eczema causes your skin to become infected, our doctors may prescribe antibiotics.
