Brief Summary:
The ASMANEX® TWISTHALER® is used for maintenance treatment of asthma and is not a bronchodilator and is not indicated for rapid relief of bronchospasm or other acute episodes of asthma.
Mechanism of Action:
Mometasone furoate is a inhaled corticosteroid used to treat the inflammation which is an important component in the pathogenesis of asthma.
Proven Uses:
ASMANEX® TWISTHALER® inhaler is indicated for the maintenance treatment of asthma as prophylactic therapy in patients.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include Headache, Allergic Rhinitis, Pharyngitis, Upper Respiratory infection, Sinusitis, oral candidiasis, dysmenorrhea, musculoskeletal pain, back pain, Dyspepsia, Myalgia, Abdominal pain, nausea.
As with other inhaled asthma medications, bronchospasm may occur.
It is possible that systemic corticosteroids effects reduced bone mineral density (BMD) and adrenal suppression may appear in a small number of patients, particularly at higher doses.
Long-term use of inhaled corticosteroids, including ASMANEX® TWISTHALER® may increase the risk of some eye problems (cataracts or glaucoma).
Precautions:
ASMANEX® TWISTHALER® is not a bronchodilator and should not be used to relieve acute asthma. Acute asthma symptoms should be treated with inhaled, short-acting bronchodilators such as albuterol.
